About this chapter
Weather information becomes operationally useful only when observations, analysis, and communication work together. Buchanan and colleagues examine that connection through installation use cases identified in the chapter as Fort Moore and Fort Carson. The discussion combines weather observations, numerical prediction, data fusion, automated alerts, and other analytical inputs within a broader information system. Detailed statistical derivations are intentionally outside its scope; the emphasis is on the systematic approach and the use of the resulting information. Readers can use these cases to examine how computing and data infrastructure connect to an actual service rather than treating a forecast as the end of the analytical process.
